Symptoms and treatment of gastric influenza in children
Stomach flu, like a common flu or cold, can be very bad, especially for small children, who are going through it very hard.
It is worth knowing the proven ways to catch a cold in children, so as not to get sick.
It is in small children that dehydration caused by gastric flu can also cause the worst complications. So how do I quickly recognise the symptoms of gastric flu and how do I relieve my child from the disease? That's what we write about in this article.
What are the symptoms of gastric flu?
The most characteristic symptoms of gastric influenza are mainly:
- diarrhoea - in the case of gastric influenza it is abundant and watery. Usually it lasts from 2 to 3 days. Sometimes it can last up to 9 days;
- frequent nausea and vomiting;
- fever, even up to 39 degrees;
It should also be remembered that due to its specific nature, this disease is highly contagious and if there are very young children at home, be careful not to infect them.
How do you treat stomach flu?
There's no single drug for gastric flu. As a rule, the doctor recommends symptomatic treatment. The most important thing is to constantly replenish the amount of fluids in the body. Keep in mind that it is best to administer water for this purpose, or special irrigation fluids, which will also replenish the electrolytes lost during the illness. However, during this disease, children should not be given fruit juices, soups or, worst-case scenario, sweetened and carbonated drinks.
It is also worth remembering about the proper diet - dishes served at this time must be very delicate, not burdening the stomach and at the same time provide valuable nutrients.
Go to the doctor if the diarrhoea is very violent, lasts longer than 3 days, or the patient has dehydrated.
What else should you keep in mind in the case of gastric flu?
When someone at home has stomach flu, whether it is an adult or a child, it is very important to maintain proper hygiene and, as far as possible, limit the contact between the person and healthy people.
