Dry coughing at night - how to stop it?
November 26, 2016
A dry cough is a much more persistent symptom than a wet cough. It is one of the first symptoms of colds or respiratory infections. It also often happens that it is a reaction to inhaled, dry air or cigarette smoke, as well as dust that lurks in your throat. A dry cough causes irritation of the throat and bronchi, and its attacks occur most frequently at night, which makes it impossible to fall asleep or rapidly awakens from sleep.
How to deal with this problem? What for a dry cough?? First of all, we should take care of proper air humidity. For example, special humidifiers or containers with water standing next to a radiator are perfect for this purpose. You can also add to them a mixture of herbs such as eucalyptus, sage or thyme, which will also have an inhalation function, so that the symptoms of scratching in the throat significantly alleviate. The best results of treatment are given by dry cough syrups, which thanks to their thick consistency and high content of soothing ingredients and sugar "wrap" the throat.
You can also prepare cough syrup yourself, here the onion is the best choice. Just cut the onion, sprinkle with sugar, wait for the juice to release and then take it 2-3 times a day with one teaspoonful. Such a specialty will also work well for the night. It is worth wrapping your neck in a shawl during the illness, as well as giving up alcohol and smoking cigarettes for its duration. In addition, we should resign from heavier dishes, which may additionally irritate the sore and dry throat.
Due to the fact that the cough increases at night, we should take particular care of the comfort of staying in the bedroom, through the mentioned air humidification, as well as ventilation of the room. In order to provide the sick person with sleep, it is worth to take medicines before falling asleep, and also put at the bedside e.g. honey, which may turn out to be a salvation for us in the moment of a sudden attack.
