Heartburn and hyperacidity - causes, symptoms and treatment
November 25, 2018
One of the symptoms of indigestion is heartburn and hyperacidity. Heartburn is a burning sensation in the esophagus, often combined with a bounce. It appears some time after eating a meal, when the digestion process is in progress. During this process, the stomach produces too much gastric acid, which moves back into the esophagus, causing the symptoms mentioned above. They are very easy to ignore, but untreated heartburn can turn into something more serious. Is there any effective treatment for heartburn? And what to do to remove not only her symptoms, but above all her causes?
How do you recognize heartburn?
To start treating heartburn, we need to recognize it first. As mentioned above, the most common symptom is burning in the esophagus, but not only. There may also be pain in the sternum area radiating to the throat and neck, a bitter-sour aftertaste in the mouth and frequent food pouring. Heartburn usually occurs after a meal that is too rich or too digestible. If it occurs sporadically, unpleasant symptoms can be relieved with antacids. This heartburn medication is designed to reduce the production of gastric acids, so that you can feel relief in a short time.
Effective treatment for heartburn
Many people face heartburn and try to eliminate it in their home ways. One of them is herbs and teas: ginger tea, caraway tea, and among the plants also aniseed, fennel, marshmallow or multi-flower rodest. Chewing sugar-free gum, drinking a glass of warm water with dissolved baking soda (half a teaspoon) and a few drops of lemon juice, as well as carrot, beetroot and cucumber juices with a basic reaction can also help neutralize gastric acids.
In the pharmacy you can find many drugs for heartburn, more or less effective. The heartburn medicine has the active substance ranitidine, which stops the secretion of gastric acids. It is most commonly found in tablet form. It is worth to use them in case of recurrence of occasional problems with hyperacidity. In the treatment of heartburn it is also important to eliminate its direct causes. The main reason for this may be improper nutrition - a diet rich in fats, sweets, as well as frequent consumption of coffee, tea and alcohol. So if heartburn occurs disturbingly often, it means you have to change your eating habits.
Everyone's heartburn can occur after something else: some complain about it after eating something fatty, while others complain about it after eating something sweet. Still others have heartburn after eating a fast food meal. So in order to get rid of it, one should avoid just these foods that cause it. Besides, heartburn can be an effect of overeating, so if we are in the habit of eating in a hurry and irregularly, it would be good to change it. The healthiest thing is to eat about 5 meals a day every 2-3 hours. Then the stomach keeps up with the digestion, so there is no reason for hyperacidity. By taking care of your digestive system in this way, you will avoid more serious diseases, such as gastroesophageal reflux. So let us never underestimate the symptoms of heartburn!
