What is a sign of cold hands and feet?
July 3, 2019
Many people have cold hands and feet, even in summer when temperatures are conducive to faster warming of our body. However, even if our hands are cold on warm days, this can be a sign of health problems. Most often chronic cold hands and feet cause blood circulation problems. However, there are still a few other ailments, the symptom of which is the low temperature of the limbs. What's that? What's that?
Thyroid hypothyroidism
This cunning disease can occur for many years without symptoms, after all, cold hands or feet are neither painful nor troublesome, so they are rarely taken into account as an indication for a visit to the doctor. Inactivity means that the thyroid gland does not produce enough hormones, and its improper functioning slows down the work of the entire body, including the negative impact on body temperature. But usually hypotension is also connected with problems with weight, hair loss, or even sometimes pain in joints.
Ischemia
This is a situation when we have too few red blood cells in our blood, which are responsible for regulating the body temperature. Blood vessels are narrowing, and as a result the amount of warm blood does not flow through our veins. To confirm or rule out ischemia, basic blood tests are sufficient.
Hidden stress
Contrary to appearances, we may be unaware that our body is under stress. Even when we seem to feel great, our body can be cold or our stomach can hurt "for no reason". This is the body's reaction to stressful situations. Increasing adrenaline means that blood circulation at the highest level concentrates around the brain and heart, and the limbs reach only as much as is minimally needed, which makes you feel cold and as a result our feet and hands are also cold.

Peripheral neuropathy or diabetes mellitus
Also people with these two diseases very often have cold hands and feet. Unfortunately, even when the body temperature is generally correct, the limbs can remain cool.
What else?
The temperature of hands and feet may also be affected by the use of certain drugs or even contraceptives or alkaloid derivatives. And what's interesting, also smoking cigarettes. It is also worth knowing that cold limbs are a much more common problem in women than in men, which is influenced by menstruation - blood loss, hormone storm - which can cause the temperature of limbs to drop.
How to fight cold limbs?
First of all, the cause of these problems must be found. Sometimes a simple blood test with thyroid hormones, i.e. TSH and sugars, is enough to detect or exclude diabetes. Sometimes also cold hands and feet in women appear only during the period of monthly bleeding, so you can assume in advance that it is the loss of blood is the cause.
It also happens that test results are normal and we do not feel stress in our lives, so this factor can be rejected. Then it is worth checking the level of adrenaline, because increased production of adrenaline can cause peripheral vasoconstriction, which leads to low temperatures in the hands and feet. It is also worth to use vitamins and iron, whose deficiency can also manifest itself in low body temperature. Although cold hands or feet are not very problematic in everyday life, this symptom cannot be ignored.
